You Can't Change…or Can You?

Over the past months my heart has been very heavy.  When trying to ask others for support for our ministry I began to have a clear understanding of just how other humans view those who have engaged in criminal activity.  My goal shifted and I began to try and find a healthy way to educate the communities regarding criminal thought process.  My thoughts kept going to Human Activist and the need to get one on board, but that too was shattered when I was told many will support other Human rights but few will support humans who commit a crime.  In fact most of the people I have spoke with think criminals got what they deserved.  Slowly I began to find myself becoming more and more interested in educating our communities.  But how?  A few weeks ago I got a letter from a young man who spoke of his story before his criminal story.  Going back through other letters we have received I started to notice a pattern.  I am guessing here but I would almost bet not one person in prison today grew up saying when I grow up I am going to live in prison.  I would also bet not one was born with the behaviors that landed them in the place they are.  See all behaviors are learned and anything learned can be unlearned.  The problem most people have is those behaviors have now become a habit.  In order to make a new habit you have to throw out the old story and begin to write a new story.  Each new chapter in your life can be a new start and the best part is the old story can be thrown out.  Is this easy?  Heck no, probably the hardest thing you will do but the end results will change the direction of your life.

My goal is to write a book to assist with educating the community.  Here is where you can help.  I need a few of y'all to assist me in writing this book.  I would like to include your story before the story i.e. what led up to your crime and I would like to get your family involved as well.  Only first names will be used to protect your privacy.  I will respond to each letter I receive and include my response in this book. Each and everyone of you deserve the opportunity to show society that you are good people regardless of your crime.  This task will not be easy as there is a lot of work that will need to be done to assist in educating and changing society's beliefs.  If you truly want to enter back into society as a new person you have to be willing to not just speak differently but also show a behavioral change as well.  In other words you agree to not violate society's rules or cause harm towards another human and you agree to become a productive member of society.

All proceeds earned by the sale of the book will go towards building a Farm for TCIY Ministries so men and women have a place to parole out to.  And to assist with educating the community.  If you are interested in helping please write and let us know and I will send out more information.

From the Minister’s Desk

Carla and I started a new study recently by Ted Dekker called The Forgotten Way.  The last few weeks have been full of information that I have never heard before.  Or maybe I heard it, but never really HEARD it!  The Memory Verse in this newsletter is one of those things.  We are seated with Christ in heavenly realms.  Now…not when we die, but right now.
Another thing that made…makes, me scratch my head is that we are children of God, and because we are children of God, Jesus is our brother.  Now I get I am a child of God, but I have never thought that Jesus was my brother because of it!  I am an only child so I did not experience what it was like to have an older brother.  I do have two sons and I have experienced, more than once, the protection that this bond brings out in one or the other.  This opens my eyes to a different perspective, Jesus as the older brother, protects me from things that could do me harm!  And when I do have a run in with something that affects me, He is right there, the first one on the scene to make sure that I am okay.  That is pretty amazing!
No matter what it looks like, no matter how it feels, our “Big Brother” is with us every step of the way, we just need to trust that He has our back, He is in control.
No matter how it looks…God’s got this!

Blessings,
Nikki

Quote of the day

“Everyone has inside of them a piece of good news.  The good news is you don’t know how great you can be!  How much you can love!  What you can accomplish!  And what your potential is!”

Existing on the Outside

We have been looking at starting a support type group for family members who have loved ones on the inside.  I believe it will be on the first Saturday of the month, probably beginning in September.
The base for the group will be a book by Carol Kent called Waiting Together, Hope and Healing for Families of Prisoners.  The author’s son was arrested and is currently serving a life sentence.  This book shares what Carol and her husband have and are going through during this time in their lives.
We hope that this will be beneficial to all who choose to participate.

Funny THoughts of the Day

Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, while dish washing liquid is made with real lemons?

Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?

Why isn’t 11 pronounced onety one?

Why is it that if someone tells you that there are one billion stars in the universe you will believe them, but if they tell you a wall has wet paint you will have to touch it to be sure?

Smile, it makes them wonder what you are up to…

What's the difference between a hippo and a zippo?
One is really heavy, and the other is a little lighter.

My friend says to me: "What rhymes with orange?" I said: "no it doesn't".  (that one makes me giggle every time I read it, LOL)

Ministry Update

Finally after almost 18 months we filed our 501c3 with the Internal Revenue Office.  We received the approval letter which means we are now an official non-profit public charity donations may be taxable to the extent allowed by law.
We are EXCITED!
Now the fun begins!!
Also, to make it easier for folks to donate, we have a PayPal account set up.  One click of a button on our website and the donation goes directly into TCIY’s account!
Memory Verse
But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.  Ephesians 2:4-6 NLT
